During the consultation, we’ll review your teeth, gums, x-ray, and medical history to ensure you’re a candidate for dental implants. Patients must have enough jawbone and must also have healthy gums to proceed with the dental implant procedure.

The procedure includes placement of the implant, a small titanium post, into the missing tooth bone socket. The jawbone fuses with the post so that it’s fixed. Next, an abutment, which is a small connector, is attached to the post where the new tooth (AKA the crown) goes.

Dental implant-supported restorations are comprised of three main parts: the implant posts, the abutments, and the lifelike prosthesis (i.e., dental crown, bridge, or denture).

Implant posts: A dental implant post is a small, root-like post made from biocompatible titanium. The post is inserted into the jawbone, which fuses to the titanium implant as it heals (a process known as osseointegration). To place your implant posts, Dr. Bowman will utilize advanced 3D imaging technology to precisely plan the position and angle of your dental implants.

Abutments: After your jawbone has healed from implant placement, which typically takes up to six months, your dentist will connect small abutments to the implant posts that extend above the gum line. These abutments allow your dentist to secure your lifelike crown, bridge, or denture to the dental implant posts.

Prosthesis: Once the abutments are secured to your implant posts, your dentist can attach your custom-designed replacement crown, bridge, or denture to the abutments and implant posts. Once the procedure is complete, your dental implants and lifelike prosthesis will not only rebuild your smile, but also provide the vital functions that allow your healthy teeth to support your jawbone.
